The main characters of GTA 6
The first trailer for GTA 6 has already served to introduce the two main characters of this installment: Jason and Lucia.
Lucía has robbery in her blood
Lucia carries the weight of the trailer, and three things become clear throughout the trailer: that she is Latina, that she has been to prison, and that she was born for heists.
The first female protagonist in the series
Although some people remember that in the first GTA we could choose between 8 skins for our character (4 of them female), none of them had a story or background. They were just paper and cardboard. Cosmetics, skins, as we said. The long tradition of GTA protagonists would start later with Tommy Vercetti, CJ, Niko Bellic, Trevor and company. So, yes, Lucia will be the first female protagonist in a GTA game.
Inspired by Bonnie & Clyde
Lucia and Jason are based on Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, better known as Bonnie and Clyde, two thieves and fugitives in early 20th century America. The government labeled them "public enemies" between 1931 and 1934, but both enjoyed the sympathy of the people and were seen as a kind of modern-day Robin Hood.
A love story
The trailer song "Love Is A Long Road" says it all. "We were desperate then to have each other to hold, but love is a long road," the lyrics read. "The only way to survive this is together," Lucia is also heard saying, before the two promise to trust each other. Bonnie & Clyde were also known for the great love that united them, as they remained together until the moment of their death.
A most tragic ending
Let's hope that Jason and Lucia have a happier ending than the ones that have been told over and over again in movies and television. If you're interested, don't miss "You Only Live Once" (Fritz Lang, 1937), "Bonnie and Clyde" (Arthur Penn, 1967) or "The Highwaymen" (John Lee Hanco*ck, 2019).
We have to wait until 2025
To find out more about their story and relationship, for now we can only wait (long in the tooth, of course) for new trailers to liven up the wait for the game. Because for now Rockstar has only confirmed that they will be released in 2025 and only on PS5 and Xbox X Series X|S. PC users will have to wait even longer (GTA 5 came out in components two years after the console version, to give you an idea).
