Wyverns are one of the most powerful flying creatures that you can get your hands on in ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth, especially considering that there are different kinds of Wyverns you can get your hands on. However, capturing and taming one can be difficult, especially for early-game players, but thankfully there is a way you can make this easier.

Enter this simple and easy-to-construct Wyvern trap that you can easily set up anywhere to capture these powerful flying creatures. So without further delay, let's dive into the details of how to build and use the Wyvern trap in ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth.

How to build and use a Wyvern trap

To begin, you'll initially require the necessary resources for constructing the wyvern trap, and fortunately, it's one of the simplest and least intricate traps currently operational in the game—all you'll need are some metal pillars. We suggest acquiring a minimum of 40 pillars to ensure you have a sufficient supply in case of accidental destruction (which has happened to me more than a few times).

Once you've gathered the materials, you're ready to begin construction. Starting with one side and expanding from there is the most straightforward approach since the trap essentially functions as a large cage. Begin by erecting a tower of pillars that's five units high, then extend it three units across, and subsequently, five units back down to the ground level on the opposite side—this constitutes the front of the trap. You can then choose any of the top corners to erect four pillars vertically, as depicted in the image above.

Duplicate this process on the opposing corner, and finally, replicate the construction back down to the ground on the opposite end, thus mirroring the initial side and resulting in a large vertical rectangle. Proceed to each of the points on the sides of the structure, as well as one side in the front or back, and affix pillars downwards from each snap point until they reach the ground, leaving only one front-facing section of the rectangle open.

Lastly, proceed to the open side of the rectangle and attach two pillars downwards from the top of the front, creating a partially closed face of the structure. Once this step is completed, the trap is ready. Utilizing the trap is relatively straightforward and doesn't require excessive effort, although mastering it may take some practice. Once you've got the hang of it, the wyvern will be ensnared almost without fail (excluding occasional mesh glitches).

To utilize the trap effectively, begin by using a flyer such as a Lymantria or Phoenix, and then locate the wyvern you wish to trap. Provoke the wyvern by shooting it or inflicting any form of damage, then lead it back to your trap by flying directly towards the open section with the wyvern in pursuit. Simply fly lowly to the ground inside the trap and out through the space between the pillars; unfortunately for the wyvern, it's too large to execute the same maneuver and will consequently be successfully trapped.

It's important to note that the wyvern's tracking is relatively sluggish, making precise flight adjustments difficult. This may cause it to inadvertently fly past the trap entrance. To counteract this, maintain a considerable distance between the wyvern and the trap, allowing ample time to align yourself (and the wyvern behind you) on a straight path for the trap entrance.

Once ensnared, the wyvern can be subdued and dispatched for a substantial experience boost, as well as the acquisition of rare items such as the special Talons unique to each wyvern type (lightning, fire, or poison), which are essential for confronting the game's final boss, the Manticore. Be sure to try out this trap at your earliest convenience to streamline your wyvern-hunting endeavors in ARK Survival Ascended Scorched Earth.
