Local officials throughout Washington have struggled over the last several years with how to best address the homelessness situation as the number of unhoused residents seemingly continues to increase. This is a complicated issue for many cities and counties to manage as the roots of the problem go beyond state law and are directly impacted by the federal court system. That means we will likely need further court intervention in the future to clarify what local officials (including law enforcement) can and cannot do. See this brief summary on Martin v. Boise for more information.WASPC has filed an “amicus brief” in support of the Supreme Court taking up this case.WASPC continues to share our concerns where certain encampments and other situations give rise to public safety risks. Drug use, mental and behavioral health needs, serious crimes, and other safety problems are well known to many of our police departments and sheriff’s offices. As a result, we will continue to advocate for safety for all our communities and we look forward to working with our state and local leaders in putting forward both compassionate and safety-focused public policy. #publicsafety #homelessness #washingtonstatehttps://lnkd.in/gCkJPaYv

This is a big win for human dignity. Based on comments I've heard from relevant public officials, the motivations for this ordinance seem to be rooted in political considerations related to upcoming elections rather than the health and wellbeing of unhoused community members. The irony? Dispersing unhoused community members into smaller camps across more of the city is likely to amplify public backlash from community members who are more concerned by having to 'deal with' members of our community who are unhoused than they are with the health and wellbeing of our most vulnerable community members. Among a litany of concerns, this ordinance decreases access to the security of community, makes it harder for service providers to engage their clients and generally indicates reversion to the cynical approach of addressing homelessness by criminalizing the survival tactics of unhoused community members rather than providing appropriate housing and healthcare resources. This is not to say that city and county staff are not doing everything they can with available resources--the problem is that we don't have enough resources, and its not acceptable to address this gap in resources by criminalizing the survival tactics of vulnerable community members. I hope this legal process leads to an outcome that recognizes the humanity of community members who are unhoused. #MarinCounty #HPSC #changethenarrative

And in yet another example of council bullying and gross incompetence, this...A responsible council would have approached the volunteers and worked out some solution. It's just a sign, that's it.A responsible council would have replaced the sign with a compliant one and given it to the volunteers as a gesture of gratitude for the immense effort that they made over the last decade. But Auckland council is not a responsible council. It is a bully council that simply does not care at all about the people who finance it.#auckland #aucklandcouncil #bullyAbsolutely shocking!https://lnkd.in/gAicqUjR

The Compromise Alternative for Highway 41 seeks to limit impacts to both nature and the community, and the compromise has reached a new phase in the approval process. The Conservation League’s vision has always been one of nature and community in balance. This Compromise Alternative for Highway 41 is in absolute alignment with our values and vision. Unfortunately, wetlands will be impacted, but any substantial improvements to Highway 41 – including the alternative proposed in 2020 – would impact wetlands. With this Compromise Alternative, these impacts and impacts to multiple communities are minimized as much as possible and dispersed equitably throughout the project area. This means no single community has to bear the brunt of those impacts. And, the impacts to wetlands will require mitigation in accordance with state and federal policy. You can help advance this balanced approach to improving Highway 41 by submitting comments in support of the project before the deadline on July 10th. Comments can be submitted via email to Jeremy.M.Kinney@usace.army.mil. #highway41 #wetlands #community #advocacy

Consider which is more important to you: having a tightly-knit community or having a big yard? According to HouseLogic, deciding factors generally include kids and their ages, pets, and proximity to a park. In fact, having a nearby park can add at least 8% to a community's value.#realestatetips #realestateadvice #exprealty #nwarealtor #listingagent #nwarealestate #bentonville #fayetteville #sellinghomes #nwahomes #realestateexpert #realestategoals #cavespringsar #nwa
