🏥 The Medical Path of Progress in #SanAntonio – What this means for #multifamily🏗 On the far west side, over half a BILLION dollars of medical space is under construction across three hospital systems:•Christus Santa Rosa at State Highway 151 and Westover Link ($95M)•Baptist Health at Loop 1604 and Wiseman ($300M)•Methodist Healthcare at Loop 1604 and State Highway 151 ($125M)It’s important to point out that the above does not include the South Texas Medical Center, where 10 different projects are planned or underway to bring 2,998 more beds online. Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/gcA7k38rWith the city continuing to grow west, Westover Hills Baptist Hospital President Brady Phillips is forecasting that “the new hospital will serve other high-growth areas to the west of San Antonio, including Castroville and Medina County”.Previously, I’ve highlighted how #SanAntonio is the 3rd fastest growing metro since 2020 (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ga8rhgyQ).📈 Healthcare providers are clearly recognizing and responding to the tremendous growth on San Antonio’s far west side, where we forecast that favorable demographics will continue to drive strong absorption and #multifamily performance.❓ What are you viewing as San Antonio’s paths of progress?JLL Multi-Housing - Central TXRyan McBride | Robert WootenChris Roper | Nick Beardslee | Alex Fernandes

Adding hybrid patient beds in a Hamilton hotel will improve flow, but those improvements will be short-lived. Patients wait in acute care wards longer than they should because they can't be discharged safely to a system that lacks sufficient home, community, and long-term care. That is a chronic, systemic problem. Stacking patients in converted hotels will relieve congestion in wards – but only for a short time. Once those hotels fill up, the wards will back up too.Ontario has systemic failings in health care. A lack of primary, community and mental health care push too many people into medical crisis for issues that could otherwise be managed without the need for a hospital admission. Many Ontario hospitals have been routinely > 100% occupancy since 2013, something I have documented. Most comparable countries target occupancy ≤ 85% or 90%.Emergency departments have become bottlenecks where too many patients get worse rather than better, creating massive turnover of staff, which forces hospitals to hire agency nurses who are more costly, which deepens the financial strain on hospitals.A lack of staffed ward beds have resulted in avoidable deaths of patients and burnout among doctors and staff who are overwhelmed, overworked, and demoralized because they know they lack the resources needed to provide appropriate care. But many hospital CEOs won't criticize their source of funding, a succession of Ontario governments. If health care in Ontario was a highway, we'd have a traffic jam that’s 100 kilometres long. Adding capacity at one juncture improves flow but not for long; it's like clearing a couple kilometres of gridlock: traffic flows briefly for that stretch, then backs up again. In 2014-15, London’s biggest hospital spent million rebuilding ERs and training staff to manage flow more efficiently, emulating methods used by Toyota on its assembly lines. Flows briefly improved, then backed up worse than ever. The changes were later scrapped, demoralized staff quit, and the doc brought into to champion the project was quietly ushered out. I warned the plan was short-sighted before it was implemented. Politicians and hospital execs have an incentive to do something -- anything -- that they can claim will fix or at least ameliorate a crisis. Too often, what they chose to do is inadequate and not grounded in either evidence or sound reasoning. Using a short-term solution to address a temporal problem can help; that why converted hospitals made sense when we saw a surge of patient in the first waves of COVID-19. Doing it to paper over chronic problems that are more than a decade old and getting worse? That's nonsensical. That point was flagged in the CBC article by someone not associated with the Hamilton Hospital, Michael Carter. He's right.

A handful of very basic schematic drawings, artist impressions that bear almost no resemblance to the actual Albury site; and a summary that parrots previously released project outlines does not constitute a master plan.·There is no indication of the size of the new clinical services building to get an understanding of how many beds it will deliver.·How many levels will the new multi-level car park be; what engineering will be required; and how will the elderly or disabled gain access? ·The indication of future expansion means demolition of much of existing infrastructure except for the cancer centre. How long do we deliver healthcare in a construction zone, and where’s the extra parking for this expansion?·Future expansion removes just about all green space on the site, despite the artist impressions which show otherwise.·The main public entrance for the hospital is now from Keene St, a small side street that is not a major thoroughfare. NSW Health Infrastructure has been working on this for close to 11 months. It is unbelievable that more than $2 million has already been spent to deliver such a poor outcome that provides our community with so little confidence in the viability of this project.

A 2018 review by Boyce, Bungay, Munn-Giddings, and Wilson provides an updated look at the growing research on incorporating arts interventions in healthcare environments. The authors conducted a critical analysis of studies published from 2011–2016 to assess the current state of evidence. They found continued increasing global interest in using the arts in healthcare, with many studies in nursing and medical literature documenting the positive impacts of arts-based approaches on psychological and physiological outcomes.Specific benefits found include reduced stress and anxiety, improved well-being, enhanced socialization, a decreased need for pain medication, and faster recovery times. The diverse art forms studied range from visual art displays to music, dance, and creative writing programs. To summarize, this review confirms a significant expansion of research on arts in healthcare over recent years. The evidence collectively demonstrates multi-dimensional benefits for patients when appropriate art activities are integrated into treatment. Further high-quality studies can provide additional guidance on effective implementation to optimize healing.Learn more here:https://lnkd.in/gvzRk7M6#ArtsInHealthcare #ResearchReview #PositiveImpacts #EnhancedSocialization #VisualArts #HealthcareInterventions #EvidenceBasedApproach

Celebrating Juneteenth with HubMD Medical Group#Juneteenth #HealthcareAccess #HealthcareEqualityHappy Juneteenth! Today, on June 19th, Afya Global, in partnership with HubMD Medical Group, proudly stands in solidarity to celebrate Juneteenth - a momentous day in American history marking the end of slavery. As global healthcare leaders, our commitment goes beyond providing quality medical services. It ensures that healthcare access and equality are a reality for all.We deeply resonate with Martin Luther King Jr’s words: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” We must continuously work towards dismantling the barriers that perpetuate these inequalities. Our collective responsibility is to bring forth a change that can ensure a healthier and more inclusive future. In recognition of Juneteenth's historical and social importance, Afya Global and HubMD Medical Group have declared June 19th a holiday for our organization. We encourage our team members to take this day to reflect, educate themselves and engage in conversations and actions that can foster a more equitable society. Our mission is to bridge gaps and ensure quality healthcare is accessible and equitable for all. We thank our employees, partners, and the community for joining us in making this mission a reality.Together, let's heal the world. #AfyaGlobal #HubMDMedicalGroup #EqualityInHealthcare #Juneteenth #StandTogether

Work is continuing to progress on the development of a new Community Diagnostic Centre at the heart of Grimsby town centre.Five units within Freshney Place Shopping Centre are being transformed into a hub where you will be able to go and have a wide range of diagnostic tests, creating up to 150,000 additional appointments a year.Due to open to patients in autumn this year, we will be able to offer a range of services, including ophthalmology, non-obstetric ultrasounds and a mix of pathological and physiological tests, such as ECGs and X Rays.GPs will be able to refer patients to a centre, which are not only more convenient for patients but are also more efficient for staff and free up clinicians’ time to help further cut NHS waiting lists.Following the initial internal demolition phase, the full scale of the new centre can now be seen and, today, Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici visited the site to find out more.Adding that “people are really excited” about the development, Ms Nici was given the guided tour by project leads from the NHS Humber Health Partnership – the new group made up of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust – finding out more about our plans to create approximately 60 new jobs and help local businesses by increasing footfall within the town centre.Group Director of Strategy and Partnership, Ivan McConnell, said: “There are great opportunities for people to grow and develop their skills.“We will need administration staff and clinical staff to carry out multiple roles. “There are also other benefits to the local community. If we’re seeing an average of 2,500 people a week, many of which are likely to bring people with them, that’s about 220,000 people hitting the shopping centre, going for a coffee or something to eat, visiting the local pharmacies, or popping into the shops.“It will also remove some of the need for people to go to our acute hospital sites, making it easier for patients and visitors to access the services they need and reduce the demand for parking.”More details about potential job roles at the centre will be released later in the year. Completely agree with this reflection.. in my experience of designing and implementing virtual wards across our system.. developing a team of teams is key -not just clinicians /managers but including your tech supplier as well?
